But Mladinich probed deeper, forcing Rifkin to confront the horrifying nature of his crimes. Drawn from interviews with Rifkin and his mother, and conversations with acquaintances and professionals who encountered him, From The Mouth Of The Monster is an exacting true-crime portrayal and a chilling study of the possible evil within us all.
When fourteen-year-old Jesse Pomeroy was arrested in , a nightmarish reign of terror over an unsuspecting city came to an end. But the complex questions sparked by his ghastly crime spree -- the hows and whys of vicious juvenile crime -- were as relevant in the so-called Age of Innocence as they are today. Jesse Pomeroy was outwardly repellent in appearance, with a gruesome "dead" eye; inside, he was deformed beyond imagining.
A sexual sadist of disturbing precocity, he satisfied his atrocious appetites by abducting and torturing his child victims. But soon, the teenager's bloodlust gave way to another obsession: murder. Ratings and Book Reviews 4 8 star ratings 4 reviews. Overall rating 4. Yes No Thanks for your feedback! Report as inappropriate. Engrossed from start to end; the author managed to deliver the facts of Leonard Nelson's life and atrocities in fluid and compelling writing. If this is true, I am much appreciative of the author for his diligence in investigating and reporting only facts with supportive evidence.
Rather long winded retelling of a sick puppy's trail of outrageous destruction. Well worth reading very interesting and we'll researched. I would recommend this book to readers of true crime. A fascinating insight into a serial kliller's modus operandi and actions. However, his psychological motivation is very difficult to pinpoint from this analysis and his lack of concern regarding the consequences of his action is chilling.
It is very impressive that Schechter places the crimes in the social and cultural context of the age.
